Gr 3-6-Numerous large images accompany clear text to offer straightforward introductions to the human body. Skeleton, for example, includes diagrams featuring types of joints, different shapes of bones and where they appear, and cross sections revealing marrow, blood vessels, and spongy and compact bone. Head takes the most intriguing approach, working inward from skin and hair through muscles and bone to the brain. Some duplication of coverage inevitably occurs among volumes, as in discussions of involuntary muscles and the functions of various organs. -See for Yourself- text boxes suggest observations readers can make about their own bodies, such as feeling tendons in their wrists and ankles. In addition to definitions, the glossary also provides phonetic pronunciations. VERDICT Fine starting points for report writers, especially visual learners.
