MEG MASON ON STARTING OVER • Two years ago, writer Meg Mason made the heart-wrenching decision to ditch a book she’d been working on for more than a year, a choice that reduced her to feelings of grief and shame. But after the failure settled, she found the fortitude to start over on a replacement novel, Sorrow and Bliss, which recently sparked a bidding war between five publishers overseas. Here, she shares how picking up the pieces led to the most successful moment of her career.

HITS OF SUMMER • High heat, high sun and a new year – an Australian summer in full swing sets momentum for a style refresh. The key pieces for 2021 semaphore our local laidback trademark. Resolved silhouettes, an ease that doesn’t tend underdone, and shades that come to life under the sun are what it’s about. Long days tell of possibility – dress for it.

Uniform matter • When the much anticipated Miuccia Prada/Raf Simons Prada spring/summer ’21 collection debuted in September, it was an exploration of their respective signatures and the idea of a uniform was forefront. Together, and with a handful of forward thinkers, the pair presciently set a few stripped back style lessons on straightforward dressing that resonates in a brand new year.

Story of us • A true profile of a country should take into account its creative heartbeat, anywhere and everywhere. Welcome a new cadre of local design talent reflecting the true breadth of Australia’s people and stories.

GILT COMPLEX • Demna Gvasalia’s Midas touch continues at Balenciaga, whipping up accessories in hues, like liquid gold, that flash into view – and stay in the mind’s eye.

ON THE TRAIL • A bourgeois refinement meets an artistic bent in the scarves of the season to be tied any which way. As fitting for sweeping up salt-licked hair as an elegant final flourish.

MOLLY GODDARD • We ask fashion’s preeminent talents to mine their inspirations and curate their world through style. Faced with a second lockdown, London-based designer Molly Goddard highlights music, film and fashion genres that provide constant sources of joy.

In with the old • Decluttering a New Year’s resolution? Online resale is one of the fastest growth areas in fashion, with an array of platforms to choose from, but finding the right one depends on what you’re selling. Here, Vogue’s guide to paying it forward. By Amy Campbell.

BASKET CASE • With a more sustainable future in our sights, Vogue dedicates space to the latest in positive-impact, ethical and environmentally sound fashion, in time for summer.

Losing hold • In the wake of a historic election, Faith Brown was left questioning one of her oldest friendships. She reflects on a world increasingly divided and how we navigate personal connection when it feels like we’re more apart than ever.

Up to date • This month a new wave of period dramas is flinging open the drapes and unlacing the corsets, ushering in a fresh era of modern thinking into the once stuffy genre. By Hannah Rose-Yee.

The girl • Zosia Mamet, daughter of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet, broke big in her early 20s as Shoshanna, the heart and soul of Girls. Now she’s starring in compulsive whodunnit The Flight Attendant as Annie, deadpan best friend to Cassie, Kaley Cuoco’s titular stewardess. By Hannah-Rose Yee.

Written to script • She’s built a career under the radar as one of our most talented...
