Yanagihara (Waffles) gives the dip bowl a healthy makeover in this tidy collection of snackable appetizers. Classic hummus is a recognizable recipe, while most others, such as edamame dip with charred green onions and jalapenos, golden beet tzatziki, and tuna olivade with sweet peppers and fennel seed, offer novelty and variety that will delight potluckers and party hosts. Yanagihara's meticulous storage and preparation instructions will spare readers the heartache of curdled or separated spreads. She does not include recipes for homemade chips or crackers, but there are numerous suggested dipping accompaniments (e.g., crudites, baguette slices, roasted potatoes, pita bread) that are easy to make or buy. VERDICT An excellent, on-trend, single-subject cookbook that will serve well with Ivy Manning's Crackers & Dips.
